Course Description:

Academy of Career Training offers training in the nationally recognised unit of competency RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights. This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to safely undertake work at heights by following workplace procedures, applying appropriate risk controls, and using fall protection equipment.

This course is suitable for individuals who:

  • Are required to work at heights as part of their job.

  • Work in drilling, resources, construction, maintenance, utilities or other industrial environments.

  • Need to understand working at heights hazards, risk controls and safe work procedures.

  • Require a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for workplace or industry requirements.

Course Overview:

 

This course covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely undertake work at heights. Participants will develop skills and knowledge in:

  • Identifying working-at-heights hazards and assessing risks.

  • Understanding and following workplace procedures and safety requirements.

  • Selecting and implementing appropriate risk controls.

  • Inspecting and selecting suitable working-at-heights equipment.

  • Correctly fitting and using fall protection equipment and harnesses.

  • Establishing and maintaining safe work areas.

  • Safely accessing and working at heights.

  • Maintaining appropriate attachment and fall protection while working.

  • Following emergency and incident response procedures.

  • Completing required post-work activities and documentation.

Mode of Delivery: 

 

Face-to-Face Practical Training and Assessment.

Participants must successfully complete the required theory and practical assessment components to demonstrate competency.

Learning Outcomes:

 

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify hazards associated with working at heights.

  • Assess risks and apply appropriate control measures.

  • Interpret and follow workplace procedures and safety requirements.

  • Select, inspect, and use appropriate working-at-heights equipment.

  • Correctly fit and use a safety harness and associated fall protection equipment.

  • Establish a safe working area and access the work location safely.

  • Work safely at heights while maintaining appropriate fall protection.

  • Respond appropriately to changing conditions and emergency situations.

  • Complete required workplace and safety documentation.

Enrolment Requirements:

To enrol in this course, participants must:

  • Have sufficient Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills to understand safety instructions, procedures and assessment requirements.

  • Be physically capable of safely participating in working-at-heights practical activities.

  • Wear suitable clothing and enclosed footwear for practical training.

  • Provide the required identification and enrolment information.

  • Have access to a suitable device and internet connection to complete the online theory component.

Upon successful completion of RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

  • Demonstrated competency in the required skills and knowledge.

  • Provided all required enrolment and supporting documentation.

  • Paid all applicable course fees in full.

The Statement of Attainment will be issued in accordance with applicable national VET and RTO requirements.
