Course Description:
The S11 Standard Mining Induction Refresher course is designed for individuals who have already completed the initial S11 Mining Induction and need to refresh their knowledge and skills to maintain compliance with industry safety standards. This refresher course ensures workers continue to meet the mandatory safety requirements for Queensland’s coal and metalliferous mining sectors. It must be completed within two years of the initial training.
The S11 Refresher course aims to update participants on regulatory changes, reinforce essential safety procedures, and refresh practical skills to ensure ongoing compliance with Queensland’s mining safety legislation. By the end of the course, participants will:
Reaffirm their understanding of mining health and safety protocols.
• Refresh their ability to identify and manage workplace hazards.
• Revisit emergency response procedures, including first aid and firefighting.
Stay current with mining legislation and recent changes or updates.
• Demonstrate continued competency in safe work practices for surface and underground mining environments.
The S11 Refresher course is suitable for:
Individuals who have previously completed the S11 Standard Mining Induction and need to refresh their qualification.
• Mining industry workers who require a refresher to maintain safety compliance.
• Contractors, service providers, and supervisors seeking to stay up-to-date with current mining safety regulations.
Refresher training is required every five years to maintain currency.

Course Prerequisites and Entry Requirements
To enrol in the S11 Refresher course, participants must meet the following requirements:
Completion of Initial S11 Induction: Participants must have previously completed the initial S11 Mining Induction.
• Basic Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills: participants must be able to complete the online theory component.
• USI (Unique Student Identifier): A USI is required for enrolment in nationally recognised training.
Assessment Method
Participants will be assessed through written assessments and practical assessment activities. A previous Statement of Attainment or USI transcript may be required, along with permission for verification where applicable.

Certification
Upon successful completion of the S11 Mining Induction Refresher Course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the RIISS00134 Surface Mine Safety Skill Set. The following units of competency will be obtained upon completion:

This certification is valid for five years, after which participants will need to complete refresher training as required. Certification will be issued within 30 calendar days of meeting all assessment and documentation requirements.
