This course includes three essential units specified by the Coal and Metalliferous Mining Safety and Health Advisory Boards for individuals authorized to supervise workers on mining sites.

Course Description:

The online refresher course designed to align with the prerequisites for the role of Supervisor in the Resources Industry.

The online refresher course consists of three units of competency mandated by the Coal and Metalliferous Mining Safety and Health Advisory Boards for individuals responsible for overseeing workers in mining environments. This course ensures compliance with industry standards and meets the requirement for refreshing these competencies every five years, as stated in Regulation 84 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 (Qld).

The online/distance learning pathway provided offers a convenient and flexible approach to completing this refresher training. The course involves a theoretical assessment and the submission of a current Statement of Attainment within 5 years from last completion.

Course Requirements

This unit can be conveniently completed through an online course, which provides flexibility and accessibility. To ensure that you are not required to complete the full course, you will need to produce a statement of attainment from a previous completion within five years. This demonstrates that you have previously acquired the necessary knowledge and skills for the unit.

Throughout the online course, you will need access to the internet to participate in the learning modules, access study materials, and submit any required assessments. It is also important to have the ability to take and receive phone calls in the event that you need to communicate with trainers for assistance or guidance during the course.

Course Content

This course is designed to equip learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfil the requirements of three units of competency, which include:

  1. Risk management:

    • Identifying hazards appropriately and conducting thorough risk analysis.

    • Selecting and implementing control measures effectively.

    • Utilising risk management principles to supervise workers efficiently.

  2. Incident investigation:

    • Gathering evidence meticulously.

    • Analysing information to identify immediate causes (contributing factors) and underlying (real) causes accurately.

    • Making suitable recommendations to mitigate the risk of recurrence.

  3. Communication skills:

    • Supervising a team adeptly.

    • Conducting effective shift meetings or toolbox talks.

    • Negotiating skilfully in the workplace.
