This qualification is for ADF members and AMO employees working on aircraft maintenance, life support equipment, and furnishings. It requires independent or team work, discretion, judgment, and quality accountability. It aligns with DASA and CASA regulations and requires meeting MEA unit licensing requirements.

Course Description:

This qualification is for members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and employees of civil Aviation Maintenance Organisations (AMOs) involved in aircraft maintenance, life support equipment, and aircraft furnishings fabrication and maintenance. It applies to individuals working independently or as part of a team, following procedures with discretion and judgment. They are accountable for their own quality outputs and perform high-level analysis and risk assessment. Effective communication skills are necessary, especially when fitting personal life support equipment and determining fabrication requirements. This qualification aligns with the airworthiness regulatory systems of the Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), and relevant MEA unit licensing requirements must be fulfilled.

Competency Elements:

To be awarded the MEA41122 Certificate IV in Aeronautical Life Support Equipment, competency must be demonstrated in 23 units of competency, as follows:

9 Core units

AVIF0044 Marshal aircraft                                                            

MEA107 Interpret and use aviation maintenance industry manuals and specifications.      

MEA154 Apply work health and safety practices in aviation maintenance.

MEA155 Plan and organise aviation maintenance work activities.

MEA156 Apply quality standards during aviation maintenance activities.

MEA157 Complete aviation maintenance industry documentation 

MEA158 Perform basic hand skills, standard trade practices and fundamentals in aviation maintenance. 

MEA301 Perform aircraft flight servicing.

MSMENV272 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices.  

14 elective units, chosen according to the unit selection guidelines.

Up to 2 elective units may be selected from other qualifications in this or any other endorsed Training Package, provided that each unit supports vocational capabilities appropriate to this qualification and does not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification.
